#EngageYourSenses – Women’s Stories of Adventure. Episode 1. Laura Jones

Danielle Sellwood // 23 November 2017

A year ago Laura Jones would not have described herself as a runner, let alone a marathon runner, yet this weekend she’s about to run her fifth marathon in seven months as part of her 7 marathons in 1 year challenge.

Laura is the first of five women sharing their experiences of sport and adventure through our #EngageYourSenses project with Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports. In their own words, the women describe what they feel, see, smell, taste and hear during their adventures and explain how these experiences enrich their lives.

We’re showcasing a range of different outdoor activities through a diverse mix of women. Some are professional athletes and some are not, because It’s not about who is the best or the fastest, it’s about the why. Why try something new, why get out of your comfort zone and why get up and do it again when things go wrong.

Initially Lauras’ why was to raise funds for her chosen charities, the Scouts and the Jonny Wilkinson Foundation. She also wanted to inspire others to try something new. But as the challenge has progressed Laura has started gaining something much more personal.

We’re delighted that we’ve been able to share Laura’s story, but we’re even more delighted that she’s happy with the results – here’s what she had to say about the film,

“Awesome, just awesome! Thank you so much for creating such a wonderful piece. I was initially extremely nervous about watching it, but I feel just amazing after seeing it - that’s me and my story.”
